We would like to hire a bartender to server drinks at our wedding reception, but I'm very confused.

If we hire a licensed bartender, are they then liable for everything alcohol-related?

About how much would it cost to hire a private bartender?

And...how do I find one?!

Oy...

  1. Contact your local bartending school, as they place graduates in jobs.  You are responsible for PROVIDING the liquor or beer/wine and any mixers, glasses, napkins, etc.  The bartender is responsible for SERVING it, as well as knowing when/if to cut people off from service if they've had too much.

A good bartender can run $20-30 an hour, as most bartenders rely on tips for their income, and you don't want to have this as a cash bar at your wedding (very tacky).   Check with the bartending school and ask what the going rate is for hourly bartenders.
