I've had good luck searching on Venere.com for hotels in Italy.  It gives a good description, lots of pictures and ratings.  There are too many good hotels/B&B's to name just a few.

why don't you go in bed and breakfast? put on google bed and breakfast in italy...they are cheap and very confortable. Can i give you an advice? if you come in italy don't forget my city: turin, and my country: piemonte, you'll find very beautiful landscapes and very good food (cheese, wine...), ciao!
