  1. "use your imagination"

  2. the human body is one of the most important things an artist can learn to draw. it is a beautiful creation, and you will learn it doesnt contain a single straight line.

the most important class an artist can take, aside from of course art, is anatomy. knowledge of both bones and musculature helps so much when you draw the human figure. you can comprehend the general outline and shape of the body by the way bones fit together, the angle at which they do so, and the way muscle contours around the frame of the body. it is very concise and mathematical, and once you pick it up, it is really fun to draw.

i suggest you learn the proportions of the body in art class, and creat a ball and stick version of the body, with an oval for a head, a ribcage, and a simple hip. do this as best you can from memory, then refer to an anatomy drawing the next time. keep doing it from memory, then reference, and eventually go over the ball and sticks to make them the actual bones. when you perfect that, learn the basic way muscles fit in using the same method, and you will eventually get really good.

  3. Do an internet search for "Drawing tips" (with quotes) and see what comes up.

Some one once told me, for practice, draw what you see around you, then, on a separate page, draw the white-space between objects.  That was a fun exercise.
