Question:

Can anyone give me step by step directions on how to make a sandwich board sidewalk sign ?

They seem like they would be pretty easy.... but I have no carpenter experience at all....

  1. Two boards cut to the size you want. If you have no saw, go to a DIY place and they will cut it for you. Some screws, two(or more, depending on the width of the board) hinges and some chain.  Attach the hinges to the top inside edges of the boards(as if you are putting hinges on a door).  Measure out the chain to how wide you want the boards to stand apart and then attach them with screws on the inside of the boards.  Sand, paint, done!

Depending on how long you're going to want it to last, there are different materials you can use.  There is good lightweight white board at home depot or lowes that is good for painting on and can easily be carried for periods of time.  But it is not entirely weather proof.  Heavy rain will damage it.  Otherwise, use a peice of lightweight white erase board to make the display.  More durable , but a bit heavier.  I would make the shoulder straps out of some bulky comfortable material like lambswool or fleece and hot glue them in place.  

    But then I found this site that has them for sale, but I was picturing the kind of sign you hang over your shoulders, and walk around like they do on TV.
