My husband and I battle over the fact that our seven year old daughter is too young to ride with him. I am against it, I think she is too young. I can not find the legal age from anyone. I even called our State Police and the officer I talked with could not answer my question. Anyone have the answer for me???

  1. #1 - I if there are any limitations they are state specific.  So knowing your state would help.

#2 - They better be in full gear. Helmets, leather jacket and protective pants and boots.

#3- I've taken my 6 year old out.

#4 - they make special accommodations/equipment for safe cruising and riding with children.

#5: The poster who said: "I have scars down my back from road rash and I knew how to ride and was in control."  is NOT  a good example - this is a person who wasn't wearing protective gear. AND - you do not wind up off the bike when you are in control and alert.  Perhaps they were in control - but they weren't alert.

  2. There isn't a legal age but she needs to be able to place her feet firmly on the pegs. If he's just going to go around the block with her on the back, there shouldn't be a problem. However, I wouldn't go on the fwy or go fast.

  3. my sister and i ride my dads motorcycle all the time, my sis is 10 shes been riding since she was 8. as long as they have a helmet, i beleive its legal

  5. This may vary by state. In NJ there is no limit as long as they are wearing an approved helmet. My daughter started riding with me when she was 7. She was 8 when she and her sister started riding their own motorcycle.

  6. Have to get DOT approval helmet and of course pants and shirts.  There is no legal age for passenger in California, but they must wear helmet only and the operator must be licensed and insured.

  7. More of a size regulation than age she MUST be able to reach the rear footrest with her full weight on them

Hint-When my kids were small my bike had some pretty high pegs

Not the best Idea for heavy traffic areas

But for just a putt around the hood they get a kick out of it

  8. In NH there is no age limit.

Required to be able to reach the pegs. The pegs do not need to be in the stock location. Helmet required if under 18.

  9. No age restriction on passengers in my state but I won't carry a kid who can't reach the foot pegs.

  10. I am with you mom. I don't know the age. But I do know how bad road rash is. If your child falls on the driveway off their bike they take the skin off their knee. Now imagine doing that at even 25 mph. I have scars down my back from road rash and I knew how to ride and was in control. But accidents happen. I feel for you, I really do. I would say that just around the neighborhood wouldn't be as bad. But I can say I would be super nervous. I would make SURE she wears jeans and a long sleeve shirt. That will help some. I HATE seeing the chicks with flip flops and tank tops on. There is no ride worth looking 'cute' and ending up looking like ground beef if you fall. Perhaps letting him read the answers would help some?
