  1. The QM model is uses NLMS to mathematically model the spdf model. So the QM model is just the spdf model in mathematical terms.

Both models used spin-pairing (Pauli exclusion) in orbitals. This seem illogical. The MCAS model does not, but uses singular occupied, opposing orbitals to achieve spin-pairing.

  2. Since it's what I know about, I'll tell you what I can about the quantum mechanical model of an atom.  I hope this is what you are looking for:

The Quantum Mechanical Model of the atom presents a more accurate model of the than say the atom than say the Bohr model.

The QM model includes the following ideas which if you would like further details on, please see my references:

    - energy is quantized (i.e. it only released and absorbed by atoms in       specific fixed amounts known as quanta)

    - viewing the location of electrons within an atom as a function of probability rather than being trapped in orbital spheres.

    - the location of electrons are described by quantum numbers.  The quantum numbers n, l, and ml describe the position of the electron with respect to the nucleus, the shape of the orbital, and its special orientation, while the quantum number ms describes the direction of the electron’s spin within a given orbital.

Here are some pictures I found which depict quantum model pictures of electron orbitals:
