  1. practice practice practice

remember that your vehicle pivots at the rear axle not the back of the car or truck.  Look at where your going and figure out how to get there. Hey you could even practice with a remote control car to get the mechanics right. Either way it goes you need to figure out how you vehicle manuevers and how quickly you need  to turn.  Look at the spot where you need to  start turning and when your backing up and your rear axle gets to that point ,turn.  practice how much to turn how quickly to turn the steering wheel and when to turn (usually right before your pivoting spot). But there is nothing like hands on practice with a good critic there watching to give constructive advice.  good luck

  2. Try the following with no cars behind you. It'll get you into a secure groove before parking with another car behind you.

Pull up directly beside a car no more than two feet away and stop. Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right while sitting still. Put your car in reverse and very slowly back up. As soon as you visually see the left rear tail light on the parked car straighten your front wheels and back in till your right headlight is parallel to the left rear headlight of the parked car. Crank your steering wheel hard to the left while sitting still. Continue backing in with the wheel turned hard left. hopefully you'll be a foot from the curb when you have successfully parked your car. Do this a couple dozen times before backing into an empty parking space with a car behind.

Always judge the size of your car as opposed to the size of the parking space. There's no sense trying to stuff any car into a space that's too small.

When you've completed your parking maneuver always split the gap evenly between the car behind you and the car in front.

  3. Go to a large empty parking lot and practice.  Choose the

most difficult space each time.  Try this and modify it to fit

your coordination:  As you approach your "spot" swing out as

wide as you can at first, during the turn aim slightly outside of

center (right of center for a left-hand turn in) because your

back wheels will off-track to the inside of the turn. Doing this

well will result in front and back wheels being centered in the

"spot."  Remember that this is a fluid procedure, that almost

constant adjustment will be required throughout.  Angle park-

ing will be simple once you master the perpendicular.  After

each park, get out and critique yourself.  Be honest.

Consider what your did, what you saw during, and what

resulted in each exercise (each park.)

  4. Drive the car with the window down. this enabled me to suck in big gulps of oxygen and it also cooled me down.dont rush you have plenty of time. believe in yourself.

  5. Duct-tape those small fiberglass rods used for driveway markers onto each outermost corner of the car ( stick the tape to your shirt/pants first to loose some of it's "bite") and then by using your mirrors properly you can maneuver the car to THE INCH.  You should be able to see all 4 corners of the car at the same time if angled correctly.   I developed this training aid from seeing how some people hitch to boat trailers THE FIRST TIME EVERY TIME. I have recommended this tip to all my friends and family who went for licenses with great results.    --IC
