Tryout Details:

-Swimmers must complete 2 x 25 meter non-stop swims using two of the four competitive strokes with no parental assistance.

-Swimmers must be 7 years old by 1 November 2008

-First come, first served

I understand the 7 years old part, and not really concerned since I'm 14, but what's a 2 x 25? And I'm scared, it states "2 of the 4 competetive strokes" but I'm not sure what those are, I'm guessing one of them is the butterfly stroke..

-Oh, and what's "first come, first serve?"

Thanks, any help's appreciated and your swimming stories are welcome, too :)

  1. I wanted to clear up the 2x25 part.  A 25 is the length of the pool.  So one length you do one stroke, and then without stopping you return using another stroke.  Unless you have a natural breaststroke I would do free, then back.

  2. freestyle and breaststroke and backstroke are the others strokes if im right

and its just swimming 25 meters twice

and u must chose your best 2

    i would not try butterfly

  3. All right first off "first come, first serve" means there no is no set time for tryouts, you show up and tryout in the order you show up in.

The four competitive strokes are Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle (usually the crawl stroke).

A 2 X 25 means your probably swimming in a 25 yard/meter pool and it just means swimming up using one stroke, and back swimming another.

    Hope this helps you out.

  4. Well, a 25 times 2 is a fifty and that means that you have to be able to swim 50 meters in the pool without touching the bottom. As for the four strokes, you could choose from:

    butterfly

    backstroke

    breaststroke

    freestyle

(i you are new at swimming, I would suggest backstroke and freestyle because you can breathe alot wth those strokes.)

first come, first serve just means that they are just taking everyone who meets the standards until they can't hold anymore people.

    Good luck :)

  5. First come first served means anyone who gets to the tryouts have a chance to make the team. There is no set time for each person to get there.

A 2 x 25 is just the 25 meter twice...yeah, sometimes coach language is confusing. When they say 2 of the 4 competitive strokes, they mean you only have to swim 2 strokes, not 4. Exp: for the 1st 25 meter, you swim freestyle, then on your 2nd, you swim backstroke.

So basically, your swimming each 2 25 meters, but after the first one, youve used up that stroke, and you have to pick another stroke to do it on ur 2nd 25 meter.

  6. Swimming coach is a whole other language.

    2 x 25 just means swimming 25m twice.

I assume they mean swimming one 25 as one stroke and the other as another stroke.

The four competitive swimming strokes are freestyle (front crawl), backstroke, breastroke and butterfly.

I would NOT recommend doing butterfly. It is extremely hard and tiring.

First come first served is just means get there early to guarantee yourself a spot!

    Hope this helps

  7. U hav to swim 2 laps either swimmin butterfly, backstroke, or breaststroke.
