  1. In my humble opinion, cheap and Paris don't belong in the same sentence.

  2. Websites: www.fusac.fr for solo lodging, paris.craigslist.org for shared lodging.

FYI Craigslist also has non-shares listed (of course), but these tend to be reallly overpriced. You can find deals here (I did, my 1st apt), but they're VERY rare. FUSAC also doesn't have the best deals, but tends to be the easiest thing for ex-pats, who can't or don't want to provide all of the stuff French landlords typically ask of tenants (e.g., French guarantor, multi-month security deposit).

To find listings for lodging for housework/babysitting, or to put up your own ad for this, go to Craigslist.

Between a flat share & your own apt, I'd recommend you go with the flat share. 1st, apts are expensive here! 2nd, renting one here is a pain. 3rd while there are plenty of decent landlords who advertise in FUSAC & other English language publications, there are others who seek foreign tenants because of our ignorance of "how things work" and are happy to exploit this by lying and cheating us out of money. Sadly, I've heard so many of these stories... 4th, a French roommate can show you the ropes, will handle all the administrative stuff while you learn by living with him/her.

Look at this link for info on becoming an au pair: http://www.easyexpat.com/paris_en/job_au...

  3. I suggest you browse thru this website: http://www.fusac.fr/en/ and check out the ads section.
