Have you tried the TV station - he may have a friend working there still who is in touch.

Have you tried his neighbours where he lived?  I am still in touch with neighbours who moved several years ago (Christmas/birthdays)

Tried "Friends Reunited"?  He could be listed as a Contributor.

A Readers' Letter to the local newspaper - he might read it himself!
