You can help yourself by finding a news outlet, taking a job (whatever you can do to get on board, even if it isn't what you what to be) and working toward that goal.  My boss, and friend, is a news director.  He explain it to me like this:  Find some way to get on the bus.  Once you're there, it's all about working towards the seat you want in the back of the bus.

My response?  "Or in the front."
