Can anyone help me interpret the following quote from the great gatsby?

  1. I remember this from when I read this novel last year :D

    Basically, Nick was saying Gatsby was better person than all of these people.

    Nick also states the reason this was the only compliment he gave him was because he disapproved of Gatsby. But he is glad he said it to Gatsby, likely because he'd feel like c**p if someone died and he never said one good thing to the person.

    I'd have to read this in context again, but it could also turn out to be that this sounded like a compliment, and for that Nick was glad, but it may have actually been an insult. I'd stick with the above though. You may want to get other opinions.
