I can't find the answers anywhere, even in the book.

1. Give an advantage of subdividing science into many different areas.

2. Why do scientists seek to discover new laws of the Universe?

3. Why does the progress of science require both curiosity and methodology? Explain the role of each in scientific investigation.

4. Advances in science do not always lead to advances in technology. Why are such scientific advances still valuable?

  1. 1. Science is a HUGE subject... so huge, no one group of people could tackle the entire subjects because different types, are very large. It takes many years just to get a basic degree in one subject of science. Could you imagine getting a degree in physics, biology, geology, astronomy, zoology, and chemistry? Of course not! No one could. This is why science is divided... different topics get special attention by people specializing in that subject.

    2. Laws of the universe help us understand how the universe works... we can use these laws to support certain ideas that are not proven, but they can be used to form hypothesis, and eventually theories about the universe. We can't travel to EVERY solar system and look at EVERY orbit, so Kepler came up with his laws of planetary motion, which apply to all planets, no matter where.

3.Science would not be what it is without curiosity... where would we be if we didn't ask the questions "How was the Earth formed?" or "How did the universe come to be?" In order to solve these problems, we need a method to do so.

    4. Technology isn't always necessary. Ancients studied the night sky without any sort of telescope, yet they were able to divide the objects into stars and planets. No technology was formed as a direct result, but it helped us learn the basics of our solar system.
