Do you know any products that where animal tested and worked on the animals but not work on humans and then were recalled.

  1. It seems that neuroprotective drugs works in animals, but not in humans (I didn't have access to the full document, so I didn't know why...)

  2. Cosmetics rarely will be shown to "not work".

As either they are simple physical colouring or powders and thus can't really fail. Or they claim to work on an aspect that is not testable or not testable in a practical time (like anti aging creams).

What you want I suspect are products that have harmed people with side effects not seen in animals.

You can get lists of cosmetic product recalls from consumer/watchdog groups. Or you could even probably just ask the companies (say your clearing a cupboard or something). If any recalls come from companies that test on animals (which is basically all companies that do not say explicitly that they don't) then this is probably a product that did not show side effects in animals.

I disagree with animals testing of cosmetic products. However I feel bound to point out something to stop you making a point that might backfire.

The occurrence of side effects is normally statistical. As such the bigger the number in the test group the better. So if side effects later appear in humans which is a much larger sample this does not actually prove the animal tests did not work. Rather in shows that much more animal testing would be required. In short be careful how you use your findings.

  3. for recent products, you can check out the FDA alert page. this gives the name of product, company, and reason for recall: http://www.fda.gov/opacom/7alerts.html

  4. I expect that kind of information is well guarded. Think of some products that were recalled. Were they tested on animals?

How about Skoal Bandits? Were they animal tested? They caused mouth cancer in humans.

  5. sorry but no i have never heard of that

  6. My memory is not exact, but I think it tells me that thalidomide was tested in rabbits [to induce sleep?] without ill effects, before bring shown to be disastrous during pregnancy in humans. Try that name or McBride {in some celtic variant} with Google ot Yahoo to check.
