  1. Try the SSDI (Social Security Death Index).  You simply type in their name and it will list quite a bit of info.

  2. Go to his local towns obits. They should have archives of the paper on line. Good luck.

  3. send me info - will see if I can locate

    bearcreek59911@yahoo.com

  4. If they died after 1875, they may be included in the Social Security Death Index.  You can search it for free:

    http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?d...

The SSDI usually tells you their last known residence. You can write to the county clerk and get a copy of their death certificate.  The death certificate usually tells you where they were born, which can lead you to their birth certificate, if you need to work back.  Census records are recorded every 10 years.   I believe 1930 and before is publicly available.  If you know where your relative lived, you can find out quite a bit, if you are willing to spend the time and effort.

  5. Try these free sites:

    www.familysearch.org

www.usgenweb.org (click on a state to the left if you know where they lived)

www.findagrave.com (sometimes you can find the entire obituary and possibly even a photo at this site!)

Google (try all sorts of combinations, like "John Q Public", "Public, John Q", "John Public," "Johnathan Public", "Johnathan * Public", "Obituary Public, John Q", perhaps use his name + the town or county or state where he lived, etc. - - you'll likely be pleasantly surprised at the results!)

You can post his or her name, approximate birth date, and birth or residence location on this forum, several of us will try to help you.

Best of luck in your search!
