  1. Find the people on ebay or amazon or places like that who sell the "make money" guides and check their feedback to see what other customers say. You can tell if its a scam or not by seeing what other customers say about it after they bought it. Nobody is just going to explain in detail how to make money online to a stranger, that takes alot of time to explain and most people who make money online try to make money every little way they can and selling you the info is just another way amongst many ways. A real entrepreneur always looks at how to make money from every way they can so the real guys making money arent going to tell you without you giving them something for it, or else they would not be entrepreneurs.

Here are the basics of ways to make money online:

    sell domains

    sell websites (and hosting)

sell physical or digital items on ioffer, craigslist, onlineauction, yahooclassified, lycos classified, ebay etc.

day trade stocks (buy a stock for $4000 and sell it when it goes up .50 cents and make about $80 a day doing this, its a dangerous time right now but if you think you know what you are doing it can be done, I did it for 3 years but quit this year)

    Affiliate marketing

Make websites and put adsense or adwords on them

  2. There's a few different things you can look into.  Home jobs and home based businesses.  These are two separate ways to allow you to work from home.  The first way that's free is a home job.  They only pay minimum wage.  After taxes are taken out, your take home will be below minimum wage.  If this is sufficient amount of money for you, then here's a couple web sites that you can take a look at.  I can't guarantee that you will receive the job, but you can apply for it. I don't know if they're still hiring or not, but you can check.

Your other option in working from home like I stated above is to start your own home based business.  Although businesses are not free to start and you want something free to join, this is about your only option to make a sufficient amount of money working from home.  There's things like Child Daycare to telecommunications to all sorts of different things.  Each do have start up costs, rather it's toys to buy, paper to buy or whatever, every business is going to have some sort of cost to invest.  Some high costs and some low costs.

I came across this blog that I found very helpful to me, and I think if your looking for a way to make a sufficient amount of money from home, would be good information to read on. It has over half a dozen different industries to look into.
