Can anyone help me with Madden 09 for the Wii?

I just bought it and whenever I try to play a game or a season I can choose the teams, I can choose the coinflip but that's it. I cannot control the players. I can choose plays and even highlite my player but the computer controls him. I have no idea what I am doing wrong, how can I control my guys?
