My teacher told us to make a Venn Diagram that compares and contrasts corporate, royal and proprietary colonies. I cannot find similarities between corporate and royal colonies, royal and proprietary colonies and proprietary and corporate colonies. Can anyone help me, please?

  1. The following pertains specifically to the former English colonies in the present-day United States of America.

Corporate colonies, also called charter colonies, were managed by local governments.  Proprietary colonies were also managed by local governments--a local governor.  Both corporate and proprietary colonies had only limited, indirect monarchical influence.

Royal colonies, also called Crown colonies, were managed under the authority of one primary individual--the monarch.  Proprietary colonies were also managed under the authority of one primary individual--the proprieter.

Royal colonies and charter colonies were both located in the Middle and Northern Atlantic regions; only proprietary colonies were established in the Southern region.  Royal colonies and charter colonies generally allotted better rights to colonists (and by "colonists" this refers to white, male, landowners), whereas proprietary colonies were subject to the extreme authority of the governor.
