Question:

Can anyone help me with a CBP problem?

If the CBP denied me entry to the united states from canada, on grounds that they felt I was planning to go as an immigrant and "did not have strong enough ties to canada to convince them I'd return to the country", can I still travel to the USA in a few months? I had a one way ticket, did that matter? Is there any advice at all you guys can offer? I'll provide more information if needed and asked for. Also, they didnt say I was banned or flagged or anything. I was "granted the opportunity to withdrawl my application to enter" the united states. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

  1. Well, I used to be more well versed in immigration issues. However I do not think that just because your passport does not have a physical stamp, you are not flagged.

However, things would be much worse, had they deported you or banned you from entering the country. It sounds like they gave you the chance to say "I do not want to come into your country anymore after all".

Did they give you any idea as to how things will be from now on, e.g. can you attempt to enter the US?

Just out of curiousity, I haven't heard of Canadian citizens being refused entry for a while. Something must have sparked their interest. Do you have family in the U.S?

  2. I don't know what was on your application to enter the USA (visa application) but a round trip ticket is one of the requirements. You don't say where you are from and what your reason for coming to the US. The one way ticket was a red flag and I'm sure that was one of the reasons  you were denied entry.

Since 9/11 gaining entry to the USA is much harder and the requirements have changed.
