Also, I know he lived in Oshkosh, WI for some time. Married to a Ruth M Hoppe (who changed her name long time later after marrying Henry Hoppe)

If anyone can find info on Ruth Hoppe's maiden name as well you get 10 points. (Born 1910, died 2004 (Lived and died in Oshkosh, WI))

The Maru that you find in the SSDI lived in NY most of his life.

I found an insurance agent from Oshkosh named Marue O Carroll. In 1930 his wife's name was Edith and they had a couple of kids. His father was from Ohio, but his mother was from Ireland.

I'd personally call the Winnebago Clerk's Office and see if they have a marriage license for Marue...how many...and the names of his brides. That would also give you Ruth's maiden name and the names of all 4 parents.

BTW, he also had a son named Marue who was born a year before your Ruth. Is it possibly him that you're looking for?

     (Compared to Ruth's birth year, this would make more sense than the 1886 you mentioned. Rootsweb, see below, has his father listed as being born in the 1880's. The 1886 would have made him 24 years older than Ruth, unless he liked younger women. HA. It was kind of frowned upon back then, if I remember my grandmother's stories right).
