Question:

Can anyone help me with ideas for our Mother Goose Board?

My autistic 5 year old is quite taken with the Mother Goose that he has seen on Barney. The best idea I can think of is to have a nice poster of this mother goose in the middle of our board, with nursery rhymes added around her every week. He is finally singing nursery rhymes, instead of just humming the tunes. I really want to take advantage of this, and add a new rhyme to his collection every week. Unfortuantely I am not sure he will take to a goose... he really likes this wonderful lady in the shiny blue dress. I'm creative... but... does anyone know of where I can find a poster of her?

  1. Go to the Internet and search for her and print out a picture of her on a 8 X 10.  That should be good enough.  He would love it because the picture would be of her.  Guys all ages think like this.

  2. the closest I found was a picture of the Barney video cover:

You could also try calling the producer of the video. Lyrick.

  3. I looked everywhere I could think of for a poster or larger size, but I couldn't find one.  I don't know where you live, but in NJ they have a resource center for parents/teachers of special needs kids.  If you were to print out a picture that the op suggested, you can take it here and use the projector to blow it up, then trace it.  Then you just color it in or paint it in.  They even have a machine that will blow it up for you (for $3.50)

Any copy shop should be able to blow up a picture to poster size, but I don't know how much they charge.  Use a b/w picture and color it in later.  Here's a b/w pic but she is riding a goose... http://www.waiteland.com/just4kids/image...

I'm guessing you're not from NJ, but just in case....the name of the resource center is the eirc... http://www.eirc.org/ .   (Education Information and Resource Center.  They have games you can borrow as well as an area where you can "make and take."  They also have books with suggestions and ideas to help you with your specials needs child.
