    * NOTES

Re. JAMES BROWN - They lvied in Clarion County Pennsylvania until 1858, when they moved to settle near Stockton, Muscatine County, Iowa. Their last two children were born there.

Re. MARTHA SIMPSON - Her tombstone reads:

    "Safe beyond the troubled stream

    Her tired heart's strife o'er,

    our aged Mother glorified

    wil grow old never more."

Re. JOHN SIMPSON - Born in Scotland, was part of an army of Scots sent to Ireland to subdue the Catholics who were burning and pillaging Protestant homes and churches. His brothers also served in this army, and for their services, each received 25 acres of land in Ireland from King James. At that times, this was considered excellent compensation.  Four of his sons came to America: George, William, Jacob & David.

Re. GEORGE SIMPSON - n 1822, this family immagrated to America, and remained in Philadelphia among friends for a short time. Their second child was born in Philadelphia. They lived in Clarion County, Pennsylvania until 1853, when the migrated to Jefferson County, Iowa, remaining there until death. They had 10 children between 1820-1837.  George's three brothers (William, Jacob, and David) also came to America and settled near each other. They moved into wooded land, cleared it, and built log houses. In later years, as their farming made them prosperous, they built large white frame houses.  George Simpson was known as a fine gentleman, a good citizen and neighbor, and a good Christian. He and his wife were very hospitable and much admired.

  3. Hi,

My half is Irish. I recommend NIRO for certificates and searches. Proni, Emerald Ancestors. Irish Roots. If you are going to start a family tree I highly recommend Ancestry.co.uk which includes ancestry.ca and ancestry.com.

    I hope that helps.

    Good Luck

  4. rootsweb.com is a free question and answer forum.

You can post a query and, hopefully, people researching the same names will post an answer and/or contact you, via e-mail.

Brown is a common surname, so you'll need to put as much info as possible in your query.

familysearch.org is also free, but they do not store your info on-line.

You have to store it on a CD, which is re-writable.

They have several forms, which you can print at home, to use for gathering data.

Having a paper copy of your research is always a good idea, in case of damage to the CD, computer problems or power failure, before you are able to save your data.

Simply register and follow the simple instructions.
