I've asked what to do with this kitten I just found, for those of you who recognize this question...she is only a month old. The thing is...I have a little more information on her now. so can anyone help me?

Okay so I've had this kitten now for three days. The thing is she was born into stray and obviously got lost from her mother. but I wonder since I live in the midle of a bunch of apartmnet complexes that allow pets (like mine does) I think people saw her and gave her dry food so she weaned herself onto it. I've been told to get her formula, but does she reallly need it now that she's basically used to dry food? (I always wet down dry food for her with water so it's soft). She seems okay with the dry food and wet food so is it really necessary to get her formula? She is after all still a baby.

Oh and PS for those of you who answered my last question about how I could get my one year old cat and my new kitten to warm up to each other...thank you! They get along great now!

  1. Kittens of this age CAN eat dry food, as long as there is fresh, clean water available at all times.  However, the kitten needs to be eating KITTEN FOOD, not adult cat food.  Kitten food has the extra nutrition that she needs to develop properly.

Dry food can be left out all day for her to "nibble" on, whenever she gets hungry.

I hope you're planning to take her in for her immunizations.  A kitten born to a stray mom, may not have any "inborn" immunities, since no one knows if the mom was ever vaccinated!!

Good luck....and enjoy.....It seems like she's found a great home.

  2. Canned cat food is ~78% water. High quality cat food is fine in the dry form. I would wet it for her, but dry food is fine. Royal Canin and Science Diet are good ones , also Purina One for kittens.  Good luck.

  3. first of all you got to check your cat for disease then try feeding a little of both and plus dry food is more healthier. trust me cause i got 14 dog and several of cats

  4. She definitely needs wet food at the very least. Watered down dry food just isn't going to cut it yet. I would suggest adding formula to wet food and letting her work on that. Dry food is too hard on her little mouth and digestive system and doesn't have all the nutrients she needs.

    Good luck!

  5. it would be fine even if you just gave it a little milk mixed with warm water if it eats dry food its fine with eating that ...and this doesnt have anything to do with your question but kittens can't pee by themselves when there really young, there mothers help them kinda..but you should make sure that it is peeing and stuff..just incase
