I was able to make the lace pattern work when doing the gauge, but when it came to actually making it work when kntting the actual garment, It's a nightmare!

It says to repeat pattern 4 times, even though I have room for 5 and on the next odd row, and I can't seem to get the pattern to line up with the odd row below it...

If anyone can put the general pattern into layman's terms when having to repeat the pattern, that would be awesome! Thanks!

  1. it sounds like you have too many stitches.

i suggest that you start over and make sure that you cast on the recommended number stitches and follow the pattern slowly.

  2. Here is what I learned that at a lace knitting workshop. Sometimes it is easier to write out the pattern by row so you have the complete block down. Then you can put a post-it next to the row you are working on. Considering the complexity of this project it may be easier to type it out this way.  Also sometimes the counting may be off in the pattern.

  3. i have had that same problem and i advise that you start over and read the pattern over again c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y  and make sure it matches up with what the pattern says. good luck and good knitting!!!

  4. the back needs 65sts

the instructions say that the pattern is 14sts+1 +2 edge sts

    to work 4 pattern repeats = 4x14=56+1=57 + 2 edge sts = 59sts

you have 6 sts spare which need to be worked evenly at the beginning and end of your row.

so look at the graph and work 3 sts before the first repeat as shown and then work 3 sts after the last repeat as shown in graph - this will centre the lacy pattern in the centre of your work and will not throw off the stitches.

then just follow the graph to line up the following rows.

hope this has helped - good luck
