  1. Try this one:

    http://usgenweb.org/

  2. I don't know of a free site like Ancestry.com, but I have two recommendations:  (1) Use Ancestry at the library.  (2) Goodgle the name you're researching, followed by "genealogy."  You my find various sites, either trqcing your family back many generations or offeriing the opportunity to post specific questions.

  3. Would you like to insert some periods, capital letters, and other proper grammar rules into your long-winded paragraph so it will become clear what all you are saying?  And, also you might want to try spell check.

  4. There isn't one like Ancestry.Com, but as the above poster stated your public library might have a subscription to it that you can use.

Ancestry.Com is the absolute best in my opinion for the records on line.  They have paid to get those records online and I feel because of that they are selling a very useful service.

Just don't take as absolute fact everything you see in family trees on their website or ANY website, free or paid.  The family trees are not put online by experts working for the websites but by folks like you and me.  There are errors.  You might see different info on the same people from different subscribers.  Then you will see repeatedly the same info from different subscribers on the same people, but that is no guarantee at all it is correct.  A lot of people copy without verifying.  The information can be useful as CLUES as to where to get the documentation.

Rootsweb and FamilySearch.org are 2 good free sites.  They don't have as many records online as Ancestry.Com.

A Family History Center at a Latter Day Saints(Mormon) Church has records on people all over the world, not just Mormon.

In Salt Lake City, they have the world's largest genealogical collection. Their Family History Centers can order microfilm for you to view at a nominal fee.

I haven't ever had them to try and convert me or send their missionaries by to ring my doorbell.  I haven't heard of them doing that to anyone else that has used their resources.  They are very nice and helpful.
