Before we had radio, people read, talked and played games or did crafts to pass any leisure time. Before TV, people did more talking, thinking, reading and social group activities. Wit TV people gathered around the TV, entertainment became a passive spectator sport. Then came commercials that could influence spening habits and create needs. Then came computers which are very individual - now talking within families is often difficult although communication with other parts of the world got easier.
