hey, whenever I play I can get the ball on the green but I take 3 putts to get it in, if it's short I underhit it and if it's long I overhit it, can anyone suggest something to give me a better feel for the distances?

  1. Well I can't help you ( I have no skill) but, i found a link that might be useful.

  2. When you're putting on the practice greens, go through your normal routine, but when you hit the ball don't look up.  Do you feel like you hit it too far, too short, or just right?  Then look up and see how your judgement was.  I tried this and found that I could judge distance very accurately, but I just wasn't concentrating on speed when it came to playing on the actual course.  Now if I concentrate I don't 3 putt.

  3. Try altering your putting stance to more of a side-saddle foot position. Not necessarily feet aimed at the target, but more like a 45 degree angle. This gives you ability to line up your shot (both distance and direction) without moving your head... you can do it with peripheral vision. I use this stance on long putts and switch to square stance on the short putts, when I can see the ball, line and cup while looking straight down.

  4. Sadly it is a practice thing. Make sure you are not breaking your wrist.

Spend lots of time on the practice green. I even purchased one of the home putting systems at Wal-mart for 30 dollars. It has helped quite a bit.
