My mother,Mary Paget died last September and I am tracing my family from Ireland.

My grandparents names were Robert Paget and Kate Rohan, born late 1800's, lived in Dublin. My mother was born at 37, Cumberland St North, Dublin in 1924. all her brothers and sisters have now gone and I would love to contact their children as well as completing my family tree.

  1. http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/

  2. the lds website has a great genealogy link! (sense they do baptisms for the dead, they have to find all of the ancestory they can and so 13 million people put their ancestory here.)

  3. if you're willing to pay a bit, ancestry.com is now international. you can check european records. i paid for a small membership a while back and the info i found was worth it. most of the sites are pay anyways! good luck :-)

  4. The best way to do it is to go to Dublin, super place, and trace things there.

The people at the relevant offices are hugely helpful, unlike the average poe faced English civil servants, and ts a great place.

Get the knowledge in the atmosphere of the place.

  5. Look at 1920 and 1930 census records for Dublin and see if you find the young couple before and after your mother was born. Also look for church records. As Irish they were probably very Catholic (marriage and baptism and communion).

Ancestry.com has a monopoly on records. Even sites that dont appear associated with it, direct you to ancestry to pay for access to online databases. There are free sites but they have potions of records available little by little. So what you maybe looking for may not be there yet.

I think it is always best to see the records with your own eyes and come up with your interpretations. Besides an image on a computer screen isn't a part of history, the document is.  A trip could be fun.

    Good Luck
