Can anyone identify a snake i found??

The snake was in a wood in yorkshire in the sun and it was back/grey all over with pale blue eyes. Does anyone know what sort of snake it is??

  1. Grass snake,adder or smooth snake are the only native wild snakes.The adder has a zig zag pattern down its back which is the easiest form of identification.

    The grass snake is easily identified by a Distinct yellow/cream/white and black Collar around neck

    And the smooth snake.A slender snake, the dorsal surface is usually grey or brownish with a double row of brown or black spots. These spots sometimes appear fused giving a crossbar effect. The flanks may also have a single row of spotting. The back spots can also be joined down the back forming 2 longitudinal stripes down the body. Stripes and bars can also occur for just short parts of the markings with the double row being present as normal on other areas.

    Ventral surface is grey, brown, appearing uniform or mottled with white, the sides of the belly are usually whitish. The throat and forepart of the belly usually appear lighter.

    Its eyes will have appeared blue due to it getting ready to shed its skin.

  6. The blue eyes will be because it's in shed. There are 3 species of snake in the UK, Grass Snake, Adder and Smooth Snake. Look at these in google images to see if you can find a match.

    btw becareful if it was! an adder they are very venomus and have a short temper 2

  8. Well, it wont be a grass or adder, which narrows it down to a slow worm or smooth snakem i reckon its a snooth!.
