I bought a watchmen goby yesterday, He was sold to me as a dragon goby, but he is not.

He is all black with blue spots on him (like a yellow watchmen), he has white veritcal lines going down his body and a beautiful blue on his tail. I bought him with his pistol shrimp friend. My new watchmen is currently sharing a home under a nice rock in my 110 gallon tank with yellow watchmen. The pistol shrimp is currently doing work for there home!

Can anyone identify him for me? Also what is that snapping noise pistol shrimps make? What reason do the snap for? It is a very cool sound!

  1. It is most likely a Bluespotted Goby, stays very small at around four inches in length. It is dark blue, dark brown and dark green in color and may become very spiney looking. Now to the pistol shrimp... They come equipped with a special single oversized claw which can be used like a sonic weapon, producing a burst of sound which is actually capable of killing or stunning small marine animals, which are then eaten.
