Can anyone identify something I saw while on a car trip in Spain?

Driving through Spain in the 1980's, I recall seeing--in the background, between the buildings we were passing--a huge, building-tall statue, perhaps of Jesus or Mary or some other Christian figure, but I'm not at all sure. It reminded me of that monstrous statue that stands on the bluff in Rio de Janeiro.

No one I've ever asked about this seems to know what I saw. We were in a hurry to get back to England to catch a plane, so we weren't able to stop to investigate at the time. I can't remember exactly where we were when I saw this, but it was in or outside one of the smaller cities--maybe Toledo or Grenada, which are two of the places we visited.
