Question:

Can anyone identify this bug?

I keep finding these in my apartment around the bathroom area. Can anyone tell me what they are?

(The legs are a bit messed up in the picture, I took the picture after smacking it with a shoe.)

I live in the Kansas City area, if that's any help to know.

  3. Just a centipede.  They eat other bugs.

  5. Sounds like a House centipede, Scutigera coleoptrata. Beneficial as they feed on insects/spiders that may be in your home. Most commonly found in damp areas; basements, bathrooms, etc.

    Try airing/drying out the area, sealing any cracks in walls and around pipes and eliminating their food source.  Lots of products on the market claim they kill centipedes, but actually don't.

    Nothing to be concerned about regarding their bite- most house centipedes are incapable of penetrating the skin.
