Question:

Can anyone identify this children's book? (About disabled boy who plays with cricket figurines)?

Years ago I remember my brother getting an audio book from the library which I also ended up hearing. I don't remember very much of the story, but enough for it to be frustrating that my web searches have not found any sign of the book's existence!

Some details:

The book focussed on a disabled boy who was really interested in cricket. Being unable to play himself, he used to play the game with small cricket figures who represented players.

The boy has a best friend who he plays these matches with, although I seem to remember that the two they have a fall out at some point.

I also remember there was some bullying experienced by the boy/s from the 'school bully'. The books ending was sad, and I'm fairly sure involved the boy dying, (possibly even before the argument had been properly resolved between the best friends? not certain about that..).

Another odd detail that stays with me is some of the boy's figures being stamped on and crushed! Can anyone help?

  1. I remember listening to that audio book too. It was called The Final Test. I seem to remember the disabled boy and his friend played with the figurines, recreating their own version of the bodyline series (I remember one was Larwood, Bradman...). The friend also played cricket for real I think.

  2. Sorry no.Try asking your local librarian.
