It is once flowering (June/July), has dark mossing on buds and stems, old rose fragrance, bush size 5 feet by 5 feet, very healthy.

Cuttings will take.

  1. It looks like  a Floribundas either Abundance  or Humanily rose

  2. It's so difficult trying to identify a rose from a photo but here are some possibilities.

William Lobb (aka Duchesse D'Istrie) this is a mossy rose as you described and grows to 5 or 6 feet.

    Henri Martin,

    Empereur de Maroc,

    Charles de Mills,

    Reine de Violettes.

These last four look like the example but the description does not mention mossiness.

    hope that helps

  3. It's called a moss rose.Sorry I don't know what it's proper name though. I have a really old one in my garden that my mother planted and she died 30 years ago.

*** Looking on Google images it could be Duchesse d'Istrie

  4. A beautiful rose!  There are so many named and lost old  roses out there that the first clue you gave is that it is a moss rose.  I have two moss roses and one found rose that is some unknown moss.  I am sorry but there is little I can suggest other than browse some of the old rose websites such as Antique Rose Emporium.  Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Edit: Good guesses my Michael below.  I have Henry Martin and William Lobb and neither reminds me of those in the photos.  I had Charles De Mills, a gallica, but there is no moss on Charles de Mills.
