  1. Is it really that hard to look for a wikipedia article on the subject? here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bat...

  2. There's the joker, clayface, scarecrow, the riddler, two face, poison ivy, etc. There's a lot more, but I'm not going to post them all. Instead I have the list below in my sources. All the villains should be there. Some should have bios.

  3. Batman has been around since 1939, and has appeared in "Detective Comics," "Batman," "World's Finest,"  "Batman Family," "The Brave and the Bold," "Justice League of America," "Batman: Black and White,"  "JLA," "Batman and the Outsiders," "Gotham Knights," and dozens of graphic novels and mini and maxi-series (books with from three to twelve issues which tell one long story or a few related stories). Offhand, I would say Batman has appeared in at least two thousand stories, and probably closer to three thousand. I sincerely doubt anyone can name ALL Batman villains off the top of their heads, and even the Wikipedia list of Batman villains would barely scratch the surface of the total number of villains Batman has faced, especially if non-costumed criminals are counted (Batman has faced at least as many ordinary non-costumed criminals as he has extraordinary ones, probably more). Even if you left books off the list in which other heroes than Batman and Robin appear (thereby eliminating three-quarters of the "World's Finest" stories, all of the "Brave and Bold," "Justice League of America," "JLA," "Batman and the Outsiders" and every villain like Shame, Egghead, and others who are non-canonic to comics from the "Batman" television show and the "Superman" radio program (on which Batman and Robin were often guest stars), you would still be looking at a very long list.

If, for some reason, you feel that you absolutely must have a complete list of every villain Batman has ever faced, you'll have to compile it yourself and, for the comics at least, you could use the information on just one website to do it. I'm posting a link below to "The Grand Comics Database" and what you would need to do would be to type in "Batman" and set the search key to "character," which will give you a very, very long list of titles of comic books in which Batman has appeared. Once you have made a copy of that, you'll need to go through each and every issue of a particular title in which Batman has appeared (for example, in "Detective Comics" Batman didn't appear in the first twenty-six issues but he has appeared in over six hundred issues since then) and make a list of each villain from each story, once you have done that, go back through the list and scratch out any appearance by any villain who appears more than once (the Joker, for example, would probably appear in at least a hundred and fifty stories, perhaps even more). Once you've done that, move on to the next title on the list (I would suggest "Batman" because I personally would want to eliminate the books in which Batman has appeared the most first, but you could do it anyway you wanted as long as you go through each and every issue of any book in which Batman has appeared). If you can spend eight hours a day, five days a week, you can probably compile the complete list of villains in a month, perhaps even as little as three weeks.

I don't know where you will find an index of the villains Batman faced in his newspaper strip, which ran for a dozen years, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding episode guides to the three years of the "Batman" television series. The two Batman movie serials should also be available in chapter synopsis. Villains from Batman's many appearances on the Superman radio program will be problematic because many of those episodes have been lost. If you eliminate comics where Batman is part of one team or another, you should be able to finish your list as much as a week earlier.

    Have fun.
