2nd Ave in the 50's and 60's has some good bars. For your age Id say McFaddens, Mad River Bar, Tin Lizzies, Metro 53..I guess it depends on the crowd you like also.

Not from the area, but this weekend I went to Heartland Brewery. It's a bar right between Time Square and Rockefeller Center. They make their own brew and I liked the atmosphere.

I don't typically like oatmeal stouts, but I loved theirs. Everything else on tap was pretty decent. Might be worth checking out!
