I qualified last year as an HR professional and moved abroad last year to work for a very prestigious company in HR but only as agency staff and not a direct employee, which means worse pay, benefits, growth opportunities etc.

I have recently applied for a job in the same company but not in HR, if i was to be offered the position (which is of course a big if at the moment) would it be a terrible idea to take the job? All working conditions would be excellent if I took it. But it would be work at a lower level than what I qualified for (although still at the same level i've been working at this year).

If i didnt take it and went back home to concentrate on HR, there's always the risk that my work performance wont match up to my academic performance and I'll have to do a lot harder work for less money. If i took the job mentioned above, I could still apply for other jobs in the organisation or save up enough money to change career if necessary, as HR doesn't really get me going to be honest. When people ask me what I do, I say HR apologetically! On the other hand my academic performance and understanding HR was excellent.

What do you think would be the best decision?I'm a bit confused at the moment!!

  1. All I can say to you on an honest basis is that some of these online opportunities are proven to be scams that is very true therefore it is about researching to see what is genuine and what is not however some people think that online businesses are get rich quick schemes which they are not they take alot of work just like any business however the rewards for that work will be good. I have been a personal development and success coach for 5 years not and the most genuine opportunity I have found is a 3 1/2 year old company.

  2. Is the job you applied for one that is in a career path that is more interesting?  If so, you should definitely consider taking it.  It is not uncommon to take a reduction in salary to get yourself redirected into a new type of job or specialization.

I am in marketing and I waked away from a promotion from manager to director level at a company that focused on a category I did not like and that was not giving me the skills I needed for long term job growth.

I spent the next 18 months as a manager at a company I love doing a job I love  as well as one that is giving me experience that is very cutting edge in the industry - this will help immensely when I go to get my next job.  I was recently promoted to Sr Manager and though I still do not have the director title, the salary + bonus is now equivalent to what I walked away from.  (And I am happier)

I think enjoying your job is important, and the higher you climb the harder it is to make changes.  You don't want to find yourself 15 years down the line miserable with HR and feeling like you don't have any other choices!

Good luck, I know it is always difficult to make these types of choices!
