If an immigrant of U.S.A. doesn't want to go back to the country from where she came from, then can anyone or the government can help her? She want to stay in U.S.A. She doesn't want to go back, but her parents are forcing her to return to that country. She's is a legal immigrant and she is 18+. She had already applied for both green card and social security card. The Social Security card will be arriving within two months. She is a student. Finished her O'level. She want to study law. Can the US government or any legal person can stop her family from taking her to that country? Even if she leaves her home, then how she will survive, she doesn't have money. Her all savings and property is in Bangladesh.

  1. The US does not have "O levels" in its educational system.  So some of your info does not add up.  Furthermore, any immigrant must have a sponsor who is a US citizen and an immediate blood relative (parent, sibling or adult child of the applicant).  You have no sponsor, no money, no support, no way to earn an income, and no way to stay in the US.  No one can help you.  In fact, enabling a non-citizen to remain in the US in violation of any law (like your lack of sponsorship, etc) is a major felony -- up to 10 years in prison plus a steep fine.  You have family, money, property in Bangladesh, so you have to go home.

  2. This person cannot be forced to go back if she's over the age of 18 and a legal immigrant.  I highly recommend that you contact a Women's Crisis Center, Battered Women's Shelter, Catholic Charities or similar organization that can get her free legal representation and give her a place to live until she gets her life in order.

If any violence, or threats of violence, are made against this woman she should contact the police department immediately at 911.  This is the United States and female slavery is not a part of our national custom.

  3. If she's 18 and has a legal permanent resident status, she can't be legally forced to leave the US by her family. That doesn't mean they couldn't find many other ways to persuade her, or coerce her into leaving. but she'd have to be willing to take action herself, and probably live on her own at some point. How will she survive is an excellent question, but not one we can answer for her. There are places that would certainly be willing to help, just as Yak Rider says. However, I think it would be reasonable to assume that whatever property and saving she has in Bangladesh would be lost.

  4. If she is 18, her parents have no right to force her to leave this country.  Since I don't know where she lives in US.  Usually school counselor and ACS involve, they will try to resolve it on verbal level.  If they force her to move out, then ACS will step in.  Then social welfare department should be step in also.  ACS will arrange quarters and social welfare will arrange food.

ACS is appointed by the judge of family court.  Usually when students refuse to go to school, school attendance will call up this special unit to see whether involve the neglect, abuses, etc.  She is 18, it's a little bit tricky.  Try to let her school involves, local community, women support group, christian church, etc.  I don't recommend to sue her parents, they will never reconcile in future.

    Good luck!

P.S.  Wait for the green card, and then go back to Bangladesh to sell everything and come back.
