  1. no, i'm sorry i just looked on the internet but you might want to check yourself. i think you have to hook a wire up to you computer or laptop then transfer the video and then insert a disk into your pc and transfer the vid onto that. hope this helps.

ps. look in wal-mart if you know that store

  2. Most hard drive or flash memory camcorders do not use firewire. A few of the JVC's do.

Hard drive camcorders with a viewfinder:

    Canon HG10

    JVC GZ-HD7

    Sony HDR-SR11, SR12

The bad news is when you transfer straight to DVD like that, the VOB and VRO files are even more compressed than the internal hard drive data files - and you need to rip them using a DVD ripper like HandBrake... editing that video is icky because the quality is not so good.

Your BEST option is miniDV tape for lots of reasons, including:

All miniDV tape based camcorders use firewire.

Tape is cheap, so the tape becomes your "archive".

If you drop a hard drive based camcorder and brake it, how will you get untransferred video out? (hint: send $ to DriveSavers). With miniDV tape, get the tape out and get another camcorder.
