  1. I'm in Texas, so I understand the necessity to run the AC. This is what I've done....

Keep lights turned off when not needed.

Replace the AC filter every 2 weeks.

Wash clothes at night with cold water....dry at night too.

Run dishwasher at night....keep heat dry on off.

I've also heard it helps to replace bulbs with energy efficient ones, unplug tv's, computers, printers/faxes, cell phone chargers etc, when not in use.....they say, even though they are "off" they are on standby mode and still drain energy. I was doing the unplug method, but it only lasted a couple of days.... my husband was so frustrated and thought everything was broken. I don't know how much of a difference my energy bill will show, but I hadn't done anything different the previous month and it had jumped by $60.....I have a feeling it was because of the AC filter, but I guess I'll find out. Hope this helps...good luck!

  2. there are a lot of things you can do to compensate for your ac.. replace all of your light bulbs with the new compact flourescents, get a toaster oven so you use your conventional oven less, and unplug anything that you don't use all the time..

I would turn your ac down even more, and when you think it warm inside go outside and then come back in.. it's usually much cooler than you think it is  :)

  3. Basics are to keep window drapes closed on sunny side of house durring the day. In a condo you can shut off an unused bedroom and close the door. In a two story house close the doors upstairs.

A ceiling fan makes you feel cooler when you are in the same room. Does no good when your not home, generates heat.

U don't say what kind of house and size.??
