  1. We've written about several restaurants in Vienna:

    Enjoy!

  2. The main restaurant in the Sacher Hotel

    Figmuller's Restaurant

Demels – a very famous coffee house on a par with Sacha’s, This famous pastry shop at 14 Kohlmarkt still bears its imperial patent – K.u.k. Hof-Zuckerbacker – proudly lettered above the shopfront. The pasty shop was founded in Michaelerplatz in 1785 and acquired by the patissier Christoph Demel in 1857 before moving to its present site on Kohlmarkt in 1888. Its many small rooms are in an ornate late 19thC style. (When we were in the State Apartments we saw an invoice listing cakes etc supplied by Demels to the Imperial family, there was one from Sacha’s also). It was very crowded and when people vacated a table as Barry walked by, he sat down before he was pushed aside by a very determined Viennese lady. (When we were finished we had people standing beside us for at least 10 minutes until we finally left). We have been surprised by the coffee served in the cafes etc we have been in on this trip, you seldom get a full cup of coffee and Demels was no different. We both had half a cup of coffee and a glass of water, a piece of sacha torte for Barry and a cheese cake slice for me and the total came to Eu16.30 ($27 AUD). As Barry said they could at least have filled the cups for the price. Still it was good coffee and we had to do the ‘coffee and cake experience’ whilst here. (from forums.insightvacations.com)

ELEGANT DINING by themajorOne of my absolute favourites, the Landtmann drips with traditional style and elegance. Not as touristy as other establishments,it obviously attracts the well heeled and well connected who obviosly come to do deals and gossip under the glimmer of the chandeliers. This might be a little off putting for some, particularly as the liveried waiters buzz with an austere efficiency that some people might find a litle intimidating - but believe me, they don't bite. The food is excellent. The sliced veal is mouthwatering, their schnitzel puts Figmuller in the shade (size isn't everything!), and the traditional half breaded chicken is marvellous. The desserts are similarly mouthwatering...and yes, they also boast a Landtmann Torte which straddles the rather delicious region between chocolate mousse and cake. Perfect!
