I play in quite alot of low buy in tournaments ($20-$100) in my local casino and I want a book that can help me to win more consistently in these tournaments. I think the main problem I find is that i find it hard to do well when i am not getting the cards. I would say I am an intermediate player and know some decent strategy so i don't want a book that just teaches the absolute basics as i already know these

  1. Na I put my money in the bank, so I can save and buy nice things and invest for the future,

I am a boring non speculative person who has not the faintest idea how to play poker. But I wish you good luck. save half spend half as my granny used to say.

  2. There's some good books that have been mentioned here.  As for your "problem" the key when you're not getting the cards is to stick to your strategy and not try to force the action out of frustration.  Doing well in a tournament takes 2 things - the right amount of skill and the right amount of luck.  You won't get more luck by using less skill.  Of course your stack will dictate your action and when it gets smaller you're going to have to be more aggressive but what you really want to focus on is the quality of your play and making sure you're staying patient all the way through.

    King Cobra Poker

  3. Dan Harrington 1 & 2 will teach you great things and improve your game 5 fold.

But if you want a book about how to play when your card dead there is only one book to buy

Gus Hansen - Every Hand Revealed

Written when he won the Aussie Millions. Think he had AA once, KK twice and AK 4 times in the whole 4 days.

The book is well written and youll never be able to complain about being card dead again.

  4. why don't you just watch videos on youtube.com from some of the pros. thet give tips that help me out quite a bit and also a good online poker website to play on for real money or fake money is pokerstars.com

i'v e only been playing for three weeks and can usually wipe out 11000 out of 12000 people in some of the free tournaments. thats pretty good for just starting out.

  5. Small Stakes Hold'em

David Sklansky, Ed Miller, Mason Malmuth

  6. If you have a iPod I suggest purchasing Phil Gordon's Little Green Audio Book. It's afantastic 3-hour crash course on NL holdem.

  7. The Harrington books are amazing for tournament play.  There are three volumes, two to learn from and one is almost a quiz book to test your knowledge.

    Good luck at the tables!

  9. Harrington on Hold'em by Dan Harrington.

By far the best books for no-limit hold'em tournament play, not particularly cheap but well worth the investment. Most decent players who have read them would tell you the same.

    Hope this helps!

  10. Try Super System 2 by Doyle Brunson.

Harrington on Hold'em for cash games is a new book I am reading now.

  11. There are several amazing poker books which will elevate your game:

    1.  Super System I&2 - Doyle Brunson

    2.  Theory of Poker - David Sklansky

    3.  Play Poker Like the Pros - Phil Helmuth

    4.  Poker: The Real Deal - Phil Gordon

    5.  Harrington on Holdem and Cash Games - Dan Harrington

Reading the very best poker books will help you not only to learn the great game of Holdem, but during bad runs re-reading your favorite books will help you detect leaks in your game.  Good luck.
