I ONLY need this to Geocache. Would like basemap, multiple channels, external antenna jack, and a fair amount of memory.

$100 or less.

Thanks for all the help.

  1. For less than $100, you will have to buy something used.  If you want good features, you have to pay for them.  The Garmin eTrex Venture HC ($115 new) or Legend HCx ($180 new) would suit you, except for the external antenna jack requirement.  You don't need the external antenna anyway, because current receivers and chipsets perform very well.  The Garmin GPSmap 60Cx/CSx starts at $260 new and has the external antenna if it is absolutely necessary.  The Venture HC has 24MB of memory; the Legend HCx and 60Cx/CSx can use a microSD card for memory.  All GPS receivers have multiple channel receivers.  Most are at least 12-channel; mine is 14-channel and I have only seen 14 satellites a few times while in an open field.  Channels are not a crucial factor in deciding what GPS receiver to buy.  For geocaching, just make sure to get a unit that connects with the PC, so you don't have to manually enter all the coordinates.  It's much faster to download from the PC and you won't make any errors punching anything in.
