Can anyone recommend a 'good' restaurant in Rome?

I have travelled extensively and continue to travel around Italy a lot, but always find that in the centre of Rome, the restaurants seem to cater only for tastes of tourists, and the quality suffers. I will be there again next weekend with my gorgeous girl (Italian), and want somewhere nice and special.. thanks.

  1. My husband and I spent our honeymoon touring Italy. We went to a restaurant in Rome called "DA Meo Patacca". It is one of the oldest restaurants in Rome. Although it is sort of touristy now because it is so famous, it is also fun and unique. When we went there most of the tables were long tables with benches so everyone sits together. It is dining al fresco even though there was a roof over it. The waiters were opera singers and they would burst into song while they were serving. It was very cool. Their menu is a  long scroll done in calligraphy, and framed they are collectors items all over the world, especially the older versions. Dining there is a memorable experience and I really recommend it. I don't know the address but I'm sure you could get it on line or look it up when you get to Rome. Buon Apetito!

  2. Sabatini, Piazza Santa Maria In Trastevere 13, Rome. Tel: 06 58 12 026. Bus Routes: 45, 65, 170 or 181. Open: Daily; midday - 3.00pm and 8.00pm - midnight. Closed: 2 weeks throughout August. Booking in advance is recommended and most major credit cards accepted.

This busy restaurant offers an exciting location in the heart of Trastevere. During the summer months, diners can sit outside overlooking the delightful piazza with the floodlit mosaics of the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere in the foreground. In the colder months, the restaurant opens up its wood-beamed ceiling and terracotta-floored dining room. The food is not cheap, but the restaurant offers an excellent choice of both seafood dishes and Roman cuisine. Why not try the fresh linguine ai frutti di mare (linguine pasta with seafood) or the grilled scampi.
