Can anyone recommend a credible teach abroad company in Japan, China, Thailand or South Korea?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any credible teaching programs abroad where you do not need any teaching experience and you do not need to PAY for placement or housing? And you get a salary? Also a free roundtrip ticket would be nice. Thanks

  1. My sister used journeyeast.org two years ago and had a wonderful time with them.  She is a lawyer and took a year off to do teach abroad.  To my understanding journeyeast offers full service ESL Job placement and travel assistance to its teachers and also provides a TEFL Certification course.

Her salary was average for a teacher working in China and her housing and utilities were provided by the school.  She had to pay her way to China, but because she did one year the school paid her cash for her return ticket.

If you are looking for a free ticket, then you want to check out korea.  You wont get that from China.  I'm looking into korea jobs now and thinking about teaching abroad.  But if you want to work in Korea then you need a college diploma.  Actually you should have that no matter where you want to teach.

    Good luck and have fun!

  2. I'm not familiar with any "teach abroad" programs, but if you're just looking to to teach ESL in Asia I'd suggest looking in online newspapers for work or asking a native of the country to help you find a job online. A lot of companies will sponser a visa and help you find an apartment, and some even pay for your ticket.

That being said, if you want to work in China it's extremely easy! Native English speakers are always in high demand here. I've taught ESL 2 years here and if in your position, I'd find a Chinese person to find you a job online--they're all over the internet, just in Chinese!!

My biggest suggestion is not to go through a "teach abroad" company: I've heard they're nothing but a big rip and once you get to the country and see all the other jobs offerring double your pay you realize this.

  3. check out the following..  journeyeast.org is by far the best org for going to China.  Professional staff will spend as long as you need on the phone answering your questions.  Almost always can reach a real person.

    http://journeyeast.org  Teach English in China

    http://z-visa.com  China Travel Visa Service

    http://eslteachercafe.com  GREAT ESL CAFE

  4. We went with 'laughing cows' for Korean teaching positions.  It's uk based and run by a girl called Amanda.  She taught in the town she sent us to.  everything was paid for us although our apartment was very crappy!  She's good at putting you in touch with people who have been/are out there.

    Good luck
