I KNOW, I KNOW. But it's my mom computer and she does not want to upgrade from 98. I have AVG 8.0 free virus scan which is wonderful but is only supported back as far as ME, I believe.

Does anyone know of one that is still being supported with updates for '98.

  1. Superantispyware and Spybot Search and Destroy are two antispyware that still run on Win 98, as well as Avast antivirus.

    * For a firewall, I would suggest that you go to oldversion(dot)com and find the version of Zone Alarm that runs with Win 98.  I'm not sure which version you need, but it's at least version 6.1.744 or older :

** Super, Spybot, and Avast will all update, but I don't know of any firewall that runs with Win 98 that still has updates; although that really isn't all that critical for a firewall as it is for antispyware and antivirus.

  2. I just researched and chose Avast (available at www.download.com) for my Win98 SE laptop.  It works well and doesn't slow things down as much as AVG 8.

    HTH!
