  1. Yes, La Alameda is awesome, it's our favorite restaurant!  Beauregard's (one on Jordan, one in Providence, and one on Airport), Papa Gyros (on University), Sitar (Indian restaurant on Jordan), Vinny's (another Indian restaurant on Jordan), Edo (Japanese restaurant in Madison), Tim's Cajun Kitchen (Jordan), Big Ed's Pizza (S. Parkway), Gibson's BBQ, Wildflower Bistro (Jordan), Thai Garden (5 Points), Seoul Express (Korean restaurant on Sparkman), Ol Heidelburg (University), Mikawa (Japanese restaurant on University), the Chinese buffet on Jordan Ln across from Frizzles and next to the psychic.

  2. For Mexican try the La Alameda on University.  They have fantastic carnitas.  I grew up in So.Cal and it is the only place I know that has them.

PoBoys over on Andrew Jackson by 5 points is good for Cajon type grub.

Surin of Thailand is good.  They have 2 locations.  One is over on Airport Road the other is in Madison on University and Hughes road.  Great sushi.  My wife and I ate there the other night and had our fill with an appetizer and the bill was 32 bucks.  They have lots of great food if sushi is not your thing.

Tell me what price range you are looking for and I can give you some more options..Let me know what type of food as well.
