  1. In the Crypt under St Martin in the Fields at Trafalgar Square.  Good and plentiful hot typically English food.  Not the most romantic of locations but it does have atmosphere and you can try your hand at brass rubbing there too.  Reasonable prices and really delicious home made dishes.

  2. Cafe espanol in dean street soho... great tapas and pretty inexpensive. At jamie olivers 15 you can get two courses for £22, which is a good deal.

  3. Pizza Express jazz club - food and entertainment fantastic!

  4. well there is a nice decent not-too-expensive restaurant in knightsbridge, brompton road called Patisserie Concerto.

they have good course menu and better one for dinner,

i have been there many times and enjoy it a lot.

and dont forget the dessert after that, they have very delicious cakes..

also they have another branch in regent street near picadilly circus..

you can have a look at their website:

    www.patisserieconcerto.co.uk

    enjoy

  5. The down and out soup kitchen on London docks is good. The food is warm and depending what night you go you might get an extra roll, and even a a blanket.

  6. Rather than go to a cheaper restaurant why not look for a half decent place that has a special offer on? www.toptable.co.uk has a great list of special offers- some with 50% off!

  7. For me the best value place of all is Diwana Bhel Poori, which serves Indian vegetarian food.  I have been going for 20 years, and the snacks e.g. bhel poori, aloo papri chat etc are genuinely good, while the samosas are superb.  Despite this it is very hard to spend £10 a head.  No licence, but you can bring drinks in (there is an off licence two doors down).

A review and contact details are on my web site below.

If you are looking for something more conventional then there are lots of ideas on my site.

  8. Bistro 1 is great, they have two restaurants in Soho and one in Covent Garden. The service was good, the food was great and not to expensive!!

  9. i recommend Sofra in st christophers place, just off oxford street near selfidges. very good moroccan food, good service and not expensive.

  10. There is a new restaurant in Tooley Street near London Bridge Station. Its called Magdalen.

The food is fantastic and reasonably priced.

The menu is european and exciting and the chefs have worked at rated restaurants before. It has also had some great reviews

  11. Mildreds on Lexington St; Food for Thought, Neals Yard; both of these places serve beautiful vegetarian food. Masala Zone near Carnaby St serves meat as well. all very cheap restaurants!

  12. Any 'Bella Pasta' restuarnts are generally very good.  The link below has a serch by postcode facility.

  13. sticky fingers - its in kensington

  14. in covent Garden, not far from Neil street, There is  agreat and cheap vegetarian restaurant called " Food for thoughts". Don't be put of by the "vegetarian" as the food is gorgeous!! The place is unassuming , very popular and a bit small!! Everyone I have taken there loves it.

  15. If you like Japanese food, I would recommend "Wagamama"...good food, fast service and reasonable prices, although as you sit on huge tables next to complete strangers (which adds to the fun), it may not be suitable for a romantic dinner. There are a few branches in central London.

Slightly more expensive but definitely worth it, is the oldest French restaurant in London "Mon Plaisir" in Monmouth Street. Great food and ambiance to transport you to France.
