  1. Moby d**k and buy a Captain's hat.


  2. There are a couple of good books but the styles are slightly different so you would have to find one that suited you, I however learnt to sail while I was crossing the Atlantic using "Bob Bonds hand book of sailing" (obviously by Bob Bond) it is simple and straight forward.

  3. Chapman Piloting and Seamanship by Elbert S. Maloney. The Annapolis Book of Seamanship. Pretty much anything by the coast guard. And the series by Steve Dashew(google him). For that matter...google Nautical books or Publications.

  4. Nigel Calder's Cruising Handbook is an amazing book. I would never go out to sea without Chapman and I'd never plan an extended cruise in a sailboat without Calder.
