Can anyone recommend a good but fairly cheap b&b in kilkenny, ireland.?

we would like to take my father-in-law there for his 70th birthday in march. and would you recommend book now, or last minute bookings for flights and accommodation?

Do a search for B&B in Kilkenny, you'll see the search fields on the top right hand side.

This will give you a list of B&Bs.

But check the hotels too, depending on the time of year you can get soem good deals. You'll get a list of hotels on the same site.

The above site will be able to help you. Nearest largest town is Athlone.  Quite nice there.

If you are flying to Dublin use Ryanair and book now.  Flights are more expensive nearer the date you want to go.  You could have got a flight for around 0.99p if you had booked ages ago.  Take a look at the site for Ryanair and book now.

Bed & Breakfast in Kilkenny .... Just google them and see what comes up. Sometimes the hotels do great deals.

You do want Kilkenny city, right? Specify this when you google, otherwise you'll get places well outside of the city.
